This heritage 2-level cottage had ample charm but needed additional family living space and a more free-flowing transition from indoor to outdoor. Expanding the existing upper level into a dedicated bedroom zone and rumpus has truly transformed the family’s lifestyle.
A creative rethink on the layout of the upper level was a must for our client, with the original floor plan having two bedrooms on both lower and upper levels. The decision to have all of the family's bedrooms on the one level, with a secondary rumpus room for the kids has dramatically freed up the downstairs space. A sense of lightness and brightness was achieved with choices such as slimline windows and multiple skylights throughout, including on the courtyard roof awning. Crisp white cabinetry and stone contrasted with black sink and tapware has given the kitchen a contemporary edge, with bi-fold countertop windows opening to the courtyard further extending the space.
